Set up GA4 with Google Tag Manager
Install the Google tag for GA4, verify data flow, and connect GA4 to PingAura.
Use Google Tag Manager (GTM) to deploy the analytics tag for GA4 without editing code.
Before you begin
- A GA4 account and property.
- A web data stream for your website.
- Access to the GTM container for the site.
- The container is installed on your site (or you can add it).
- Admin access to the analytics property.
Step-by-step setup
- Open GTM and select your web container.
- Create a new Tag and choose Google tag as the type.
- Enter your Measurement ID (
G-XXXXXXX). - Add a trigger for All Pages.
- Save the tag.
Note: The Google tag is the current tag type in GTM and replaces the older configuration tag. If you are migrating, remove the old configuration tag to avoid double firing.
Optional configuration
These are advanced options and safe to skip unless you need them:
- Add configuration parameters if you need custom settings.
- Add event settings for shared parameters like
currency. - Set up user properties if you need audience-level attributes.
Verify and publish
- Click Preview to open Tag Assistant and connect it to your site.
- Confirm the tag fires and events appear in the Realtime report.
- Click Submit in GTM and publish the container version.

Connect to PingAura
- In PingAura, open the AI Traffic page for your domain and switch to the GA4 tab.
- Make sure you have Admin access for the property you want to connect.
- Click Connect with Google and authorize Google Analytics 4.
- After authorization, select the property that tracks your primary site.
Data Latency
- Analytics data is typically 24 hours behind.
