Shopify AI Agent Readiness Checker

Check whether AI shopping agents can find, read and buy from your Shopify store.

Free tool

Takes about a minute. Checks Shopify detection, agent instructions, UCP and MCP, product schema and AI crawler access.

What you get

Shopify now gives standard storefronts an Agent Instructions page, a Universal Commerce Protocol profile and an MCP endpoint that AI agents use to browse and check out. This free checker confirms each one is live on your store, checks the product data and crawler access agents rely on, and tells you what to fix first.

  • Confirms your store runs on Shopify and that /agents.md, /llms.txt and /.well-known/ucp are published and readable by agents.
  • Tests the MCP endpoint your UCP profile advertises with a safe handshake, never a cart or checkout call.
  • Checks Product schema on a real product page and whether GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended can crawl your store.

How it works

  1. Enter your store's URL and the email address to send the report to.

  2. We scan your storefront, agent instructions, UCP profile, MCP endpoint, a sample product page and robots.txt.

  3. Open your report for a score, a grade and fixes in priority order, written for merchants.

Who it's for

  • Shopify merchants who want their products recommended and bought through ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity.
  • Shopify agencies checking client stores before and after a theme, app or domain change.
  • Ecommerce teams confirming that a headless or customised storefront still serves the agent files Shopify publishes by default.

Your catalogue changes weekly. Your readiness score should keep up.

What is Shopify's Agent Instructions page?

Standard Shopify storefronts now serve a plain-text guide at /agents.md and /llms.txt. It tells AI agents how to shop the store through the Shop skill and the Universal Commerce Protocol, and where to find the store's UCP profile and MCP endpoint.

My store is on Shopify. Why would any of this be missing?

Headless storefronts, custom domains routed through another server, password-protected stores and some apps or redirects can hide the files Shopify publishes. Rules in robots.txt can also stop agents reaching them.

Does the checker place orders or touch my cart?

No. It only reads public pages and sends the MCP initialize handshake, which asks the server to introduce itself. It never lists or calls tools, creates a cart or starts a checkout.

Does it work for stores that are not on Shopify?

Yes. The report says the store is not on Shopify and still runs every general check: UCP profile, product schema, AI crawler access, trust pages and performance.

How is this different from the UCP Readiness Report?

It runs the same scan and opens the same report. This page is the starting point for Shopify merchants, and the Shopify checks it describes run in both.
