Track a Shopify store in PingAura

Add a Shopify store to PingAura to track AI visibility, audit product pages, and count contact clicks from AI-referred visitors.

PingAura works with any Shopify store. AI visibility, prompts and Site Health need nothing installed on the store. To count contact clicks from visitors that AI assistants send you, add the PingAura browser script to your theme.

Step 1: Add the store's domain

  1. In PingAura, go to Workspace settings → Domains.
  2. Enter the store's domain, for example yourstore.com, without https:// or www.. Use your own domain, not the myshopify.com address.
  3. Click Add Domain.

Prompts, competitors and AI visibility results now work for the store the same way as for any other site. See AI Visibility.

Step 2: Audit your pages

  1. Open AI Optimisation → Site Health.
  2. Click Sync Pages. PingAura reads the store's sitemap and lists your product, collection, page and blog URLs.
  3. Track the pages that matter most, such as your best-selling products, then click Run Scan.

Site Health crawls the live storefront, so it sees what AI crawlers see: product schema, page content, status codes and blocked crawlers. See Site Health.

Step 3: Add the browser script (optional)

The browser script counts clicks on phone, email and WhatsApp links, and on buttons you tag, and credits each click to the AI assistant that sent the visitor. It needs PingAura Telemetry on your plan.

  1. In PingAura, go to Workspace settings → API & MCP, click Create Key, choose Browser, and copy the key.
  2. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
  3. Next to your live theme, click … and choose Edit code.
  4. Under Layout, open theme.liquid.
  5. Paste this line just before </head>, then click Save:
<script src="https://telemetry.pingaura.ai/t.js" data-key="YOUR_BROWSER_KEY" data-domain="yourstore.com" defer></script>
  • Replace YOUR_BROWSER_KEY with your browser key.
  • Set data-domain to the domain you added in step 1.

Add the script to theme.liquid, not as a custom pixel under Settings → Customer events. Custom pixels run in a sandbox and cannot see clicks on your pages.

If you switch or duplicate your theme later, add the line to the new theme's theme.liquid too. The script does not run on Shopify's checkout pages.

To count a button such as Add to cart or Book a fitting, add data-pingaura-track="your_event_name" to it in your theme. See Track contact clicks in the browser for the details.

Step 4: Connect GA4 and Search Console (optional)

If your store sends data to Google Analytics 4 or is verified in Google Search Console, connect them to see AI-referred visitors and search performance:

Limits

  • AI crawler visits are not recorded on Shopify-hosted storefronts. Crawlers such as GPTBot and ClaudeBot do not run scripts, so they can only be counted on the server or edge. Shopify does not give merchants access to either, so neither the telemetry SDK nor the Cloudflare integration can be used on a store that Shopify serves.
  • The browser script does not send page views. It records clicks only.
  • Headless stores are different. If your storefront runs on your own front end, such as Next.js, you control the server code, so you can use the telemetry SDK for AI visits and crawlers.

A native PingAura app for Shopify is coming. It will remove the manual theme edit.
