How the AI AuraScore works

What the AI AuraScore measures, how it is calculated from each AI answer, and how to compare it with your competitors.

The AI AuraScore is your headline number in PingAura. It tells you how strongly AI assistants put your brand forward when people ask them the questions you track. It runs from 0 to 100, and higher is better.

How it is calculated

PingAura asks each AI engine every prompt you track and reads the answers. Each answer gets a score from 0 to 100, and your AI AuraScore is the average across all your tracked prompts and engines.

Each answer is scored on four things:

  1. Presence and mention type: is the brand named or cited, and how. A recommendation scores highest, then top-listed, mentioned, compared; a warning scores lowest.
  2. Position: how early the brand appears in the answer. First place gets full credit, and the score drops steeply after the top three.
  3. Coverage: the share of tracked prompts in which the brand appears. It is measured across all your prompts, and counts towards every answer the brand appears in.
  4. Share of the answer: the brand's citations and mentions as a share of all brands' citations and mentions in that answer.

If you do not appear in an answer at all, that answer scores 0 for you.

How it compares you with competitors

Every competitor you track is scored with the same formula, on the same answers, in the same run. That makes the comparison fair: same questions, same engines, same day.

  • AI AuraScore rank is where you place in that list. #1 is best.
  • The Competitors list on the Visibility page ranks every tracked brand by this score.

There is no published industry benchmark for AI visibility yet. The most useful comparisons are against the competitors you track, and against your own score from earlier runs.

AuraScore, Mention Rate and Share of Voice

These three numbers sit side by side and answer different questions:

  • AI AuraScore: how strongly AI puts you forward, all things considered.
  • Mention Rate: how often you appear at all, as a share of answers.
  • Share of Voice: of all the brand mentions and citations in the answers, how much is yours.

You can have a high Mention Rate and a modest AuraScore. That usually means AI names you often, but low down the answer or alongside many others.

Why the default view is Non-branded

A prompt that names your brand, such as "Is Acme good for small teams?", almost always produces an answer that mentions you. Counting those would inflate your score. So the score you see first covers Non-branded prompts only: questions that name no brand, where AI has to choose who to recommend.

You can switch to Branded or Competitor-branded prompts at the top of the Visibility page. Each prompt belongs to exactly one type.

Reading changes in your score

  • Scores move when AI answers change, when you add or archive prompts, and when you add competitors who start taking space in answers.
  • Compare runs of the same prompt set where you can. Adding many prompts at once can move the score on its own.
  • Different engines behave differently. Filter by engine on the Visibility page to see where you are strong and where you are missing.
