Set up Cloudflare for AI Traffic

Connect Cloudflare Bot Analytics to track AI crawlers and bot traffic before they reach your site.

Cloudflare Bot Analytics helps PingAura measure AI crawlers and edge-observed bot traffic before they hit your origin. Availability depends on your Cloudflare plan. Use the steps below to add your domain to Cloudflare, create an API token, and connect it to PingAura.

Before you begin

  • A Cloudflare account.
  • Your domain added to Cloudflare (zone created).
  • Ability to update nameservers at your registrar.

Add your domain to Cloudflare

  1. Onboard your domain in Cloudflare and review your DNS records.
  2. Update your domain's nameservers to the Cloudflare-assigned nameservers.
  3. Complete SSL/TLS setup so traffic remains secure.

Create a Cloudflare API token

  1. Go to Cloudflare Dashboard > My Profile > API Tokens (or Manage Account > API Tokens) and select Create Token.
  2. Create a Custom Token and add these permissions (required to read zone and analytics data):
    • Account - Account Analytics - Read
    • Zone - Zone - Read
    • Zone - Analytics - Read
  3. Restrict the token to the zone(s) you want to connect.
  4. Create the token and copy it — the secret is shown once. Store it securely.

Connect Cloudflare to PingAura

  1. In PingAura, go to AI Traffic > Connections.
  2. Select Cloudflare and paste your API token.
  3. Choose the Cloudflare zone that matches your canonical domain (zone apex like example.com).
  4. Save the connection and confirm the Cloudflare status is Connected.

Data Latency

  • Cloudflare data can take several hours to update, depending on your plan and zone.
